EcoPodcasts Piloting School in Austria

700

In Austria, the Lichtenfels School is actively engaged in the EcoPodcasts initiative, serving as a pioneering institution by piloting the go.ecopodcasts platform. Under the guidance of teacher Daniel Truppe, students from the 5th and 7th grades at the gymnasium are enthusiastically participating in several podcast sessions.

Inspired by the "2040 - We save the world" and the "TED-ED Earth school" video, which sparked discussions among students about various environmental issues, the class embarked on a journey to explore topics concerning environmental presence. The curriculum delved into vital aspects such as environmental protection measures, recycling practices, sustainable food choices, and combating ocean pollution, among others.

Encouraged to collaborate either in groups or individually, students not only shared their perspectives but also presented thoroughly researched materials in the form of podcasts, which are disseminated through the project platform.

4th Transnational Project Meeting in Graz

The 4th EcoPodcasts Transnational Project Meeting in Graz, Austria, was very productive! Hosted by REACH Innovation, the two days were filled with information about the ongoing project and the final months that will follow. The project is drawing to an end but all the partners are still working hard to ensure the project's success.

From the Institution of Geo Milev Krasimira Miteva and Tatyana Shurelova travelled to Austria. They are the project's Coordinator and as such responsible for the result related to the EcoPodcasts Curriculum and School partner. They informed everyone about the administrative requirements before project end and gave an update on the Timeline for the EcoPodcasts publication.

The second presentation was held by Giota Digkoglou who represented the University of Macedonia. This institution is responsible for the results related to the teachers' training program.

Before the first coffee break, Kiki Mousafari and Koutula Eleni from the 1st Primary School of Alexandria announced the 12 produced podcasts from their school. They as well presented some of them. You can listen to them via the platform!

Coming from the International Integration Foundation IIF Anamaria Magri-Pantea presented the status of the EcoPodcasts platform. As she was not able to attend personally, she sent very informative and well-structured videos.

From the AECCB the teachers Maria de Fatima Cerqueira, Teresa Manuela Ferreira Martins and Marta Cristina Pereira Vida gave an overview regarding the use of the resource pool. They also presented their method of integrating the ecopodcasts platform in their class activities.

Lucia Fanini and Maurizio Pinna from the University of Salento gave a quick overview of the Networking activites of EcoPodcasts. Lucia also presented the activities done in Italy through the LTER.

As the last presentation of the day Fatima Dargam and Kornelia Streicher from REACH elaborated on the last activities done to disseminate the EcoPodcasts Project.

On the following day, the Consortium visited the BG/BRG Lichtenfels, a piloting school in Graz. School headmaster Nicolau Holzapfel and English teacher Daniel Truppe welcomed the partners. The partners had the opportunity to follow the teacher's work with the fifth-year pupils piloting the EcoPodcasts in the school and to ask questions about the education system in Austria. The teachers have set up a “Podcast studio” inside the library of the school for the students to produce their podcasts when piloting the project.

The meeting was very successful and we all had a wonderful time! It is really nice to see all the efforts come together to such nice results.

EcoPodcasts Dissemination LTER Italy

As part of the activities to publicise the EcoPodcasts project, the University of Salento hosted a visit from 70 schoolchildren at the Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) station and the Natura 2000 protected area of Aquatina di Frigole, on the occasion of "Cammini della biodiversità: transizioni ecologiche".

The young people took part in a treasure hunt on plant and animal biodiversity and applied the tips and tricks from the EcoPodcasts toolkit to capture the sounds of nature with their mobile devices. Everyone completed the challenge and returned to school with their observations of the colours, shapes and sounds of biodiversity, material they can use to enrich the production of their podcasts.
